Transcripts from interviews and focus groups carried out with Mauritanian poets and poetry enthusiasts in Nouakchott, Mauritania, November 2022. This fieldwork formed part of an AHRC project investigating the relationship between poetry and diplomacy vis-a-vis the Western Sahara conflict. In particular, I was interested to hear people's views on how Saharawi revolutionary poetry influenced Mauritania public opinion on the was with Western Sahara, and on the historic relationship between poetry and diplomacy in Saharawi and Mauritanian tribal society.
