DATA SET FOR: Title: Diversifying physical activity promotion: A pilot study exploring parental support for physical activity in children from different ethnic minority groups.

Parents play an important supporting role in their children's physical activity (PA) behaviour. For parents of ethnic minority origin, their ability to support their children’s physical activity is associated with socio-economic and cultural characteristics, which are largely understudied. The aim of this study was to explore differences in (I) characteristics of parental support and (II) parents’ perceptions of their child’s PA activity, and (III) PA (using device-based measures) and wellbeing in children, from different ethnic groups (including White British parents and children as a comparator group). Parents from ethnic minority (Black African, Asian, Mixed, other White) and White British origin completed questionnaires about the type of physical activity support they provided (n = 85) and/or their child’s physical activity level (n = 85). A small sample of children from ethnic minority (n = 9) and White British (n = 11) origin completed a seven-day device-based physical activity measurement period and a self-reported well-being questionnaire.
