Qualitative data: Coaches interviews about their athletes (athletes with and without Intellectual Disabilities) and their coaching styles
Dataset for a qualitative research study with a title: The role of the social environment in inclusive sports participation - identifying similarities and challenges in athletes with and without Intellectual Disabilities through coaches' eyes: A qualitative inquiry
The study aimed to explore the motivations of athletes and coaches and to investigate the role of the social environment in sports participation of athletes with and without Intellectual Disabilities. Coaches who coach athletes with Intellectual Disabilities(n=11), athletes without Intellectual Disabilities (n=13) and both groups (n=2) were involved in semi-structured interviews via video-calling platforms or telephone. Coaches were asked about their athletes' motivations, their motivations, their relationship with their athletes and their interpersonal styles. The interviewer used the interview flexibly, and follow-up questions were used during the interviews to elicit richer data. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Transcripts were analysed using a reflexive thematic analysis (with an inductive orientation).
