The 8 shortlisted economic abuse intervention ideas are from a UKFin+ project titled: Designing Out Economic Abuse in the UK Banking Industry (EP/W034042/1). The project explored the potential actions banks might take to prevent economic abuse and support affected customers. Using participatory design methods, the research team brought together victim-survivors of economic abuse and banking professionals to co-design ideas for preventing or disrupting economic abuse perpetrated through banking products, services and technologies. The 8 shortlisted intervention ideas are an outcome of this process and include: (1) an industry-wide call for help; (2) joint account protections; (3) a hide payment references feature; (4) detecting patterns of economic abuse; (5) education about joint products; (6) joint mortgage checks; (7) a safe online banking mode; and (8) enhanced detection and disclosure of economic abuse.
