Presented at the CILIP NE Beyond the Horizon conference, 20th May 2024, online.

A summary of the work done across 2023-2024 on a student journals project at Northumbria University.

Since early 2023, the Scholarly Communications team at Northumbria library has worked with academics, students, and other Library Open Access professionals in the field to introduce an interdisciplinary Student Journal for Northumbria students at all levels. There are many benefits for being involved in academic publishing for students and staff alike, from CV additions, wider research skills, and critical thinking.

This lightning talk will look at the ways in which we worked through the student journal project, from learning the publishing system, researching pedagogy and other examples in practice, and working directly with students to create policies and launch the title.
